U.S. Consulate General launched America Day activities in Hue January 30-31
.  PAO Kim Gillen spoke and cut the ribbon at the opening ceremony for a week-long photo exhibit about the U.S. at the Hue City Bureau of Culture and Information building.  The event attracted the head of the Thua Thien Hue Communist Party Committee for Social and Cultural Affairs, Vice Chairman of the Thua Thien Hue People's Committee , and other provincial leaders. VTV, Vietnam News Agency, Tuoi Tre, Thanh Nien and the local Hue newspaper and television stations covered the exhibit, which generated significant public interest. 

America Day events included a talk on American culture by the PAO to one hundred students and faculty of Hue University, a session on studying in the U.S. by IIE Director and Student Advisor, and a presentation on the student visa process by the NIV Chief for students and parents. PAS and IIE representatives also participated in a roundtable discussion on American Studies with 25 lecturers and faculty of the Hue College of Foreign Languages in order to discuss ways PAS and the Fulbright program could help support this new subject.  The PAO also met with representatives from the Hue College of Arts and Sciences and Hue Festival 2008 organizers.
