Information Resource Officer (IRO) Wendy Simmons, based at the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok, conducted four workshops for library communities in Ho Chi Minh City and Danang February 17-20. Presentations focused on effective searching on the Internet, and current trends in academic libraries in the United States. At the Faculty of Library and Information Science of University of Social Sciences and Humanities, she spoke with seventy undergraduate and graduate students about "Information Commons" in the U.S. and how librarians are handling challenges and opportunities afforded by new library trends and technologies. Ms. Simmons also visited the Da Nang American Corner to give a workshop for twenty librarians from Danang University. In Ho Chi Minh City, Ms. Simmons also made a presentation at a national library conference at Saigon University that attracted two hundred library professionals from all over Vietnam.
