Students learn about American culture and crafts through Ison’s family quilts

In honor of Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day, Assistant Public Affairs Officer visited to Can Tho to give two talks highlighting women’s culture and crafts. On March 3, Ison gave a talk entitled "America’s Craft: Women and Quilting in the Past, Present, and Future" to about 30 English students from Can Tho University at the Can Tho American Corner. The talk, in honor of Women's History Month, explored quilting as an American art and explained how quilts symbolize values such as diversity, community, family, and thrift to Americans. To make the event more meaningful, Ison also brought along quilts made by her mother and grandmother. On March 4, she addressed approximately 150 students at Can Tho University about U.S. Women’s History. The presentation led to a spirited Q&A session lasting more than an hour.
