On the first stop of their southeast Asia tour, the Apple Hill Chamber Players, a grantee of the State Department’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, led a master class at the HCMC Conservatory of Music and inaugurated American cultural programming in the Central Highlands city of Dalat. On May 18, the musicians performed for and with the strings faculty and students at the Conservatory and provided information on the Apple Hill Center for Chamber Music and scholarships.

On May 20, the Apple Hill Chamber Players led a lively two-hour cultural exchange with 100 English-language students at Dalat University, playing both classical and popular songs, learning Vietnamese folk tunes, and answering questions about their instruments and their lives.  That evening, the group performed Mozart, Bartok and Schubert pieces for 400 people at the Lam Dong Province Culture House, delighting a diverse audience of local and provincial government officials, musicians, press, students and the general public.  The performance in Dalat, a city of 192,000 with a diverse ethnic minority population, constituted a major accomplishment for the first-ever American cultural event in Lam Dong Province.
