| Consulate Interns, IIE staff and Vietnamese students pose for a photo |
The Institute for International Education enlisted the help of the Consulate General interns on June 28, 2008 for the annual IIE Pre-Departure Orientation for Vietnamese students studying abroad in the United States. The six Consulate interns formed the panel of American students along with IIE’s American intern. The suggestion that students should bring cultural items from Vietnam with them to the U.S., not only for personal sentiment, but also as gifts to their new American friends, prompted one Vietnamese girl to ask the American students, “What gift would you like from Vietnam?” The seven American students’ responds were dried jackfruit, coffee, conical hats, and fish sauce to a crowd of enthusiastic laughs.
