On July 1-5, the USS Patriot and USS Salvor visited Ho Chi Minh City, marking the fourth time U.S. Navy ships have visited Vietnam since the normalization of diplomatic relations in 1995. This was the first simultaneous visit of two U.S. Navy ships to Vietnam.  During their visit, the crew carried out a community relations project at the Thien Binh Orphanage in Dong Nai Province, played a volleyball match with the People’s Army of Vietnam sailors, hosted ship tours for guests, and visited historical and cultural sites in Ho Chi Minh City.

“These visits are goodwill gestures and a welcome respite for our sailors.  They underscore the efforts by Vietnam and the United States to broaden and deepen our bilateral relationship,” remarked U.S. Consul General Seth Winnick upon the ships’ arrival.
