ConGen HCMC partnered with AmCham and the Young Businessperson's Association of HCMC to develop the seminar "Corporate Governance and the Challenge of Globalization," attracting over 100 of HCMC's business leaders and leading local press.
The seminar consisted of three panels organized thematically: the basic principles of corporate governance, strengths and weaknesses of the U.S. model for corporate governance and the importance of social responsibility in business.
Deputy Consul General Ken Chern gave opening remarks, emphasizing the importance of corporate governance for Vietnam's social and economic development. Panelists included Acting PAO David Harrison and Commercial Officer Robert Bannerman, as well as AmCham members and Vietnamese lawyers and business leaders.
This seminar was a groundbreaker; it was the first time that Americans and Vietnamese came together to discuss corporate governance and its implications for Vietnam.
HCMC television (reaching 10 million viewers) and reporters from local dailies were on hand to cover the event.
ConGen HCMC provided its professional simultaneous interpretation equipment.
