Ambassador Marine attended a JPAC Repatriation Ceremony in Ä?à Nẵng City on October 18, 2006. In addition to attending the ceremony, at which six sets of remains believe to be those of Americans killed during the Vietnam conflict were turned over to U.S. custody, the Ambassador also toured areas hardest hit by Typhoon Xangsane and met with representatives from US-based Children of Vietnam, an organization which assists poor and disadvantaged children in Vietnam.

During his visit to Children of Vietnam, the Ambassador presented a private donation of 11 million VND raised by locally-engaged staff at U.S. Embassy Hanoi. During his one-day visit to Da Nang, the Ambassador also toured the ORBIS Flying Eye Hospital, received a briefing from NGOs CECI and ADPC on their work with the USAID-funded PROMISE Project, and attended a session of HighMark’s business training program for Vietnamese professionals.
