On October 30, Consulate Economic Officer Doug Sonnek joined nearly two thousand Vietnamese school children in a "March for Road Safety" along Le Duan Street organized by the Vietnam Helmet Wearing Coalition (VHWC) and led by the AIP Foundation (Asia Injury Prevention Foundation).  At the press conference, Sonnek spoke about U.S.-Vietnam health and safety cooperation while AIP Foundation President Greig Craft told media representatives that although the majority of adults driving and riding motorbikes in Vietnam now wear helmets, very few children do, resulting in an estimated 5,000 child deaths annually from accident-related head injuries. Road Safety Goodwill Ambassador Michelle Yeoh (Duong Tu Quynh) was present to promote VHWC goal to spread awareness and encourage legislation that will increase the use of child safety helmets in Vietnam. Find out more about preventing child head injuries at. http://www.asiainjury.org/." (English and Vietnamese).
