The "U.S.-Vietnam Studies Corner" opened with a full day of outreach activities on Thursday, November 15. Consul General Ken Fairfax did the honors in the beautiful new meeting room portion of the two-large-room Corner. Regional and local television covered the event, along with local newspapers. Students, teachers, librarians, and the general public attended an "America Day" span of activities, including Information Resource Officer Linda Parker's evergreen presentation, "Beyond Google" and a consular officer giving a presentation on student visas. A panel of School for International Studies students -- undertaking environmental projects in the Delta -- described their experiences studying in the U.S., comparing and contrasting life and study at small colleges versus big public universities. A representative from the Institute of International Education spoke about how to prepare to study in the U.S. Each panel and speaker generated a lot of questions -- which made for a lively give-and-take.
