U.S. Ambassador visits American businesses and HIV/AIDS facilities in Southern Vietnam

Ambassador Michael Marine paid a brief, yet full visit to Ho Chi Minh City and Binh Duong Province on December 15 and 16, 2005.  In Ho Chi Minh City, the Ambassador met with the American Chamber of Commerce to discuss U.S. business interests and toured a rehabilitation center for recovering addicts.  Seeking first-hand information on the implementation of the President’s Emergency Plan For AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) at the local level, Ambassador Marine also visited one of Ho Chi Minh City’s 21 HIV testing and antiretroviral centers.    
 
In meetings with the provincial People's Committee and two American-owned factories, Stickley International, Ltd. and Spartronics Vietnam Company, Ltd., the Ambassador highlighted  Binh Duong province’s success in attracting foreign direct investment and stressed the need to combat HIV/AIDS.
