The U.S. Consulate General partnered with the Southern Institute for Sustainable Development (SISD), Ho Chi Minh City and Cantho University (CTU) to conduct two workshops on climate change from September 14-18. Mr. Ralph Cantral, Senior Advisor, Office of Ocean and Coastal Resource Management, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), gave presentations on climate change to 85 Vietnamese government officials and environment specialists at SISD and the College of Environment & Natural Resources, CTU. Mr. Cantral reviewed the current status of climate change and impacts on Asia and Vietnam and shared his expertise and experience on: resource management, building capacity and measures to reduce impacts of climate change. Mr. Cantral also visited the Fulbright Economics Teaching Program and undertook field trips to Can Gio District (HCMC) and Cantho City to witness areas affected by flooding and erosion. Media events included: a roundtable discussion with HCMC media; an in-depth interview with Thanh Nien Newspaper, and on-camera interviews with VTV Cantho and Cantho TV. The workshops also highlighted reports on climate change by experts in Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta.
