Seven Steps for Preparing for Your Visa Interview

Below are the basic steps to apply for a visa (unless indicated otherwise, it is not necessary to follow these steps in chronological specific order).

1. Complete the application forms

2. Pay the application fee

3. Take an application photo

4. Prepare supporting documentation

5. Obtain a valid passport: You must hold a passport valid for travel to the United States with a validity date of at least six months beyond your intended stay in the U.S. 

6. Schedule an interview appointment online: Click here to schedule an appoinment through our online appointment system. For additional tips and information on the online appointment system, click here

7. Appear for your interview at the Consulate

You should arrive no earlier than 20 minutes before your scheduled appointment. If your visa is approved, you will be given a visa issuance receipt. Anyone holding this receipt may pick up your passport and visa on the next business day, at 3:00pm, Monday-Friday only.

If your visa application is denied, your passport will be returned to you, along with all your supporting documentation, immediately at the end of the interview. Please see our section on Visa Denials for additional information.
