SEEKING TO TRAVEL TO THE U.S FOR MEDICAL TREATMENT OR TO BE MEDICAL DONORS

In addition to the supporting documentation for business or pleasure visas, the following documentation is also required for person seeking medical treatment or donating an organ in the U.S., as well as any other documentation the consular officer may request at the time of the visa interview.

Medical  treatment

- A medical assessment of your condition from Cho Ray hospital or other suitable testing centers.  The statement must discuss the availability of adequate treatment in Vietnam, and must indicate whether U.S. treatment methods differ significantly from those in Vietnam.  

- Evidence that a U.S. doctor or organization is aware of the specifics of your case and has agreed to render his/her services.  The doctor/organization must provide cost estimates and a timetable for treatment.

- Evidence that someone will pay for your medical treatment.  We will consider any evidence that a close friend or relative is willing and able to pay for the treatment.  We will accept a receipt showing a pre-treatment deposit with the doctor or hospital, or proof of personal health insurance coverage.

Medical donors

Results of the medical tests below completed within the last four weeks, preferably done by Cho Ray hospital at 2201B Nguyen Chi Thanh Street, District 5, Ho Chi Minh City; Tel: 08-856-5703; website:www.choray.org.vn/huongdan.asp

- Blood typing
- Tissue cross match
- Tissue typing of HLA
- Renal arteriogram
- Screening for HIV
- Screening for hepatitis
- Screening for herpes
- Screening for CMV
- Screening for syphilis

A letter or certification from the physician and medical facility in the U.S. stating that the applicant is an acceptable organ donor.

Written proof that arrangements have been completed for the organ donation and an indication of where and by whom the medical procedure will be performed.

An estimate in writing of the likely cost from the U.S. facility or physician that will perform the medical procedure.

Proof that financial arrangements for payment of estimated expenses have been made 

Current physician’s statements from the U.S. facility concerning recipient’s medical condition

A U.S. physician’s statement estimating the length required for the procedure and for the organ donor’s recovery from it.
