Passports

A U.S. passport is your key to international travel.  The American Citizen Services unit in conjunction with National Passport Center can assist U.S. citizens with the application, renewal, or replacement of their U.S. passport.  In addition, we can provide additional passport visa pages as necessary.

All applicants for U.S. passports must apply in person. The U.S. Consulate can neither receive applications nor return passports by mail.  Our office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Monday to Thursday, except holidays.

Appointments for passport applications and adding pages can be made online by using the following link: https://evisaforms.state.gov/acs/default.asp?postcode=HCM&appcode=1

WARNING: Do not make more than one appointment per applicant. Multiple appointments created for one applicant will result in having all appointments cancelled.

Applicants must bring one 2 inch x 2 inch (5 cm x 5 cm) head shot photos (see requirements below) and evidence of U.S. citizenship, such as a previous passport or U.S. naturalization certificate.

For minor applicants, parent(s)/guardian(s) must submit evidence of their relationship to the minor applicant such as a birth certificate, adoption decree, or court order establishing custody.  Both parent(s)/guardians(s) must be present to sign the application.  If only one parent is present in Vietnam then that person should provide either a birth certificate listing only one parent, death certificate, or divorce decree indicating sole custody.  Otherwise, the non-appearing parent should complete and notarize Form DS-3053 for the appearing parent to submit with the application.

In the case of infants and children, progression photos should establish a clear likeness between the applicant’s current appearance and the photograph used to obtain the previous passport or proof of citizenship.  The Consulate General recommends at least two photographs per year.  Acceptable photographs should show a full front view of the applicant’s face with eyes open.

Passport application forms are available at the American Citizen Services unit or on the State Department’s website here.

If your passport has been lost or stolen you should report it immediately both to local authorities and the U.S. Consulate.  When applying for your replacement passport you must also bring a local police report.  Vietnamese immigration requires a police report for departure and visa renewal purposes if the previous passport is unavailable.  If possible, applicants should bring some form of identification.

We forward all passport applications to the National Passport Center in the U.S.  The National Passport Center will print the passport and send it back to us.  This process will take approximately three weeks.  Therefore, we strongly encourage you to apply for a passport well before any planned travel.

For more information regarding U.S. passports please visit the State Department's website.
