Salmonella Contamination of Peanut Butter
27 February 2007
This warden message is to notify American Citizens of a recent outbreak of Salmonella infections associated with peanut butter packaged in the USA since May 2006. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, all products containing Peter Pan brand peanut butter and all jars of Great Value brand peanut butter bearing a product code that begins "2111" are potentially contaminated, including 3/4 ounce and 1.1 ounce single serving packs of Peter Pan brand peanut butter. Jars with this product code, as found on the lid of the jar, have been distributed for sale in Vietnam. Consumers should check to ensure they are not using these products, which the Center for Disease Control recommends should be discarded. The appropriate Government of Vietnam authorities have been informed.
American Citizens are urged to consult the following websites from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for further information: http://www.fda.gov/default.htm
