Kicking-off International Education Week in Ho Chi Minh City
PAO Kit Norland answers a reporter's question about opportunities for "disadvantaged" students to study in the U.S.
To launch International Education Week, Public Affairs Officer Kit Norland joined Dr. Mark Ashwill, country director of the Institute of International Education (IIE), at a press conference marking release of IIE's "Open Doors" report on foreign students in the U.S. In addition to highlighting the rapidly increasing number of Vietnamese studying in the U.S. (visit http://opendoors.iienetwork.org for details), the event provided an opportunity for Norland to introduce a range of U.S. Government-sponsored student exchange programs. In answer to a reporter's question about programs targeting under-served populations, for example, Norland described the Global Undergraduate Program and Intensive English Program as examples of exchanges specifically targeted at under-represented student populations. Close to twenty reporters and the local television station attended the press conference.
