Officers from the U.S. Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City frequently travel to visit U.S. investments in order to better understand Vietnam's economic environment. From November 12 to 14, Economic Specialist Pham Thanh Nhan and Economic Officer Doug Sonnek visited Cà Mau, Bạc Liêu and Sóc Trăng provinces, in the process calling on U.S. investments and Vietnamese companies that trade with the United States. They also discussed economic governance with provincial officials and learned about Vietnam's economy from bellwether Vietnamese companies. Vietnam is a major exporter of shrimp and fish to the United States and uses inputs imported from the United States, like soybeans. In addition, Sonnek and Nhan visited the Bạc Liêu Bird Sanctuary to learn about important provincial wildlife conservation efforts.
